A Boat-Trip around The Palm, Dubai

Last weekend I left both children with their Daddy, and snuck off on a hen do for the day! As ever, it was chaos beforehand – the babysitter I’d arranged to help called in sick, and I’d completely failed to do any food shopping, so the boys had to eat beans on toast for lunch. But the moment I got onto the boat, I forgot about all the mummy-guilt and completely relaxed.

It was like being on holiday! We’d all clubbed together and bought lots of treats for the trip, including all the obligatory hen-do tat – from flowered lei to an inflatable flamingo.

The boat left from the Marina, and sailed along on side of The Palm, past all the luxury hotels {including Atlantis The Palm, below}, and then up round the top, before mooring in a sheltered area for lunch.

We all jumped in and enjoyed the cool water, while admiring the view of the Burj Al Arab and wave-shaped Jumeirah Beach Hotel, with the Burj Khalifa in the background.

After a picnic lunch, we set sail again, back down the other side of the Palm, and back into the Marina to collect our shoes, before heading on to 101 Dining Lounge & Bar at the One & Only, The Palm to drop us off. The bar is a gorgeous, modern sea-side affair, with comfy armchairs, and big fans. I picked up a golf buggy back to reception to get a cab home, and I was blown away by the hotel and grounds – they’re stunning.

It really was a completely idyllic day, and not that expensive, when shared between a big group of girls. I’m now planning a second trip, {without the children, but with the husbands}, before it gets too hot.
