Ivo’s Room – Decorating a Toddler’s Bedroom

When we moved out to Dubai, we didn’t bring any furniture with us, so it was something of a scramble to get our new four-bedroomed house furnished. We bought lots second-hand, but it means the boys’ rooms are a bit of a mixture of various odd bits of furniture. I wish they were better decorated, but I’m not sure about the best way to go about it – particularly because I don’t want to spend lots of money.

I’ve looked around Ikea and picked up a few pieces, and I’m pretty much obsessed with Zara Home’s Kids range. Unfortunately nothing I buy seems to fit together! I need to create some sort of mood board, and try to stick with a theme. This is how Ivo’s room looks now – please excuse the dreadful pictures!

The Stokke Sleepi Cot and changing table are the only two pieces of furniture that we bought with us! Ivo loves his cot, but he’s almost too big for it. We’ll pass it on to Arthur soon. I’m planning to get rid of the old sofa – it’s a sofa-bed, but we’ve never used it as a bed. We sit on it each night to read, but it’s too big for the room, and I’m sure I can pick up something smaller on Dubizzle {the equivalent of eBay in Dubai}.

The big foam pads on the floor around Ivo’s bed are just in case he climbs out. He’s showing worrying signs of wanting to escape! We bought these to be neutral, but I’ve seen various different colours put together, and it’s really effective. They’re about £10 each from Ace in Dubai {similar available in the UK from Soft Floor Kids}, so that would be a reasonably inexpensive way to completely change the look of the room, and inject some serious colour.

The stickers on the wall are the one thing I really love. I bought them from Decowall, and they instantly changed the look of the room. They come in all sorts of designs, and I really recommend them for a cheap and cheerful change.

Taking these pictures has really made me realise how much I’ve got to change. I’ll repost once I’ve made some progress. Soon to come – Arthur’s bedroom!
